bingo {collaged}

a little art therapy in the form of a vintage bingo card and some paint covered fingers.

doesn't it feel good to cut paper?.....jagged cut, sure. sharp cornered edge, maybe. flat side, probably.

imperfect circle happiness.

and then, sewn.

sewing. (aaaaah. again...happiness)

with pink thread.

except......look the book paper and the words.

omg.....really?! that was what i seriously cut out? AND glued down?

dang it.

happy monday to you.

community {painted rocks}

my little community has been organizing a kindness rocks- positive messages group on FB. i joined and couldn't wait to paint my rocks.

i dug around and found my rocks in my front yard around my flowers.

most had a flat top and interesting shape. i tried to find a variety of shapes to paint.

i used acrylic paint, gold ink, stencils and stamps to make mine; finished with a fixative spray to seal.

here is a little video to show my finished rocks:

may this brighten your day.

happy monday.

recap {last week; day 2}

and then we made papers...... because this was my second time through the class i knew that i mostly used the stained papers and the black and white papers- so that is what i mostly made.

i now have again a ridiculous stack of papers! which is a good thing to have if you are a mixed media artist.

happy friday.

recap {last week; day one}

the last week of june i attended an art class: stamp carving and making papers. we had a fantastic time. great group of people and wonderful teacher, jennifer stone- full of tips and tricks and thorough explanations. you can see her schedule and other artists that she is bringing in.

the stamps below are her most-fabulous stamps....the one closest in the pic actually say, "steal....and you die."

it is soooo almost worth the that one.

her's below are made from moo carve. this is nice to carve as it is relatively easy to carve into versus the huge erasers from the dollar store. the erasers work too, but, a bit more difficult to carve.

and then there is fun-foam! have you made stamps with fun foam? this is quick and so easy!  you just need to have the sticky foam. super fun!

i did circles....(happiness.....).

we used our stamps to stamp on papers to use in other things. such as my work below. this is early on but, you can see that i used my circle stamped paper in this one.

i turned the piece- but, below is the final version of this work.

fun foam stamps.....

happy humpday!

happy monday.

push & pull {second one}

this was the second card yesterday. the first one.....yikes- just needs to be thrown away. seriously.

i can't decide if i just was in a funk, or if overall, i was just off due to the nature of the day. our last child graduated and as we were sitting in the gym, i was thinking how only 5 years earlier we sat in the same gym with our oldest graduating. we will be empty-nesters and although i am excited to be at this point, i felt emotional last silly. our kids all have a plan, but, now what the heck do we do? we have lived where we live in the past due to our work and kids. now my husband doesn't work close to here and the kids have all if the good Lord is speaking to me, he needs to speak louder- apparently my hearing isn't as good as it was.

tgif {tag-it}

tag-it! i loooooove painting on used file folders and the whole point is to create a hot mess! how many times do you hear that you need to focus on the composition; clear focal spot?

sometimes don't you just want to grab that paint and go to town?! i say yes! make that hot mess and love it! because just as Mr Gerald Brommer told me, "kristin, that is what scissors are for."

yep- you heard it. create a hot mess and cut it down to a nice size to make it look fabulous!

happy friday.

art journaling {private lesson}

put that private art journaling lesson into the books
  • why do i art journal?
  • gesso; not perfectly, but, get that stuff onto your page
  • pick that first color- that will set the tone of the page and will dictate some of your color choices (unless you know when you can break the rules)
  • collage- and remember those poor pieces of paper need friends (thank you Karen Knutson for that lesson)
  • other options to use and try
  • water; alcohol (not the kind you drink.....well, maybe the kind you drink....)
  • lights; darks
  • this is one time when it is good to be a bit of a hot mess
happy thursday.

pre & post {wet technique}

working on a painting and had gotten to a point where i felt like i had too much paint on the canvas and wondered what would happen if i used alcohol to pool and move whatever was on top.

watch my short video below. (find me on youtube); felt like i may have just ruined all that work.....

but, in the end- i love what i ended up with. sometimes you have to take that big step to find the love. i liked the early stage, but, i certainly didn't love it.....big steps=love.

don't love too early.

the words written into the paint say, "the plan is not always ours to understand."

happy wednesday.

collage {and pencil on paper}

layered collage on watercolor paper and then added pencil.

(i had an overwhelming feeling that i needed to add the pencil- it was just all too neat.)

loving the colors on this one- a few easter pastels spilling onto the paper.
